Here is your 2nd quarter (June 2004) packet letter. Packet information will continue to be available on line at http://mol.atlantia.sca.org/ePacket.html for those of you who download the current information.

• READ THIS INFORMATION I have had several calls/emails recently about information that has been covered in both my Acorn and Packet letters. When questioned the MOL’s indicated that they DIDN’T read the packets they just stuck them in their MOL boxes. (this makes my head to the Exorcists spin around thing)
• Youth Combat

  We will have our first Youth Combat Authorizations this month. I know change freaks everyone out but this is good change and it’s not very complicated. In your packet you will find the following forms:

  • Minor’s Waiver
  • Youth Combat Check List
  • Youth Combat Verification of Authorization
  • Youth Combat Temp Card
  • New MOL Report (includes youth combat)

  You may notice that these forms are very similar to the Adult version. Youth Combat is run exactly the same way adult combat is run. The Procedure for Youth Combat Authorizations/Tournaments/Event Practices is included in this packet on a separate page. Individuals interested in having their children participate in Youth Combat should be referred to Lady Gisele l’Orpheline (Deborah Burgin) for more information. Forms are available at http://mol.atlantia.sca.org/forms.html .

  MOLs should also obtain copies to distribute. Call or email me if you are still freaked out after reviewing the information.

Issues

• When an Event or Combat Style is not held reports must still be sent to the KMOL. MOL Policy States:

  4.3.3.1 If a tournament is scheduled but does not occur or is started but not completed, the MoL should send a tournament report stating this fact and the reason, for example bad weather, lack of marshals, lack of participants.

  You must fill out an actual report saying no X was held and why. We’ve been having a real issue with this lately.

• Legibility of Marshals signatures
  Please check your temp cards to make sure that the Marshal’s signature is
  1. PRINTED AND SIGNED
  2. LEGAL Duke Olaf Askoldsson is not a legal entity and can not testify in court.

  I’m crispy with this one. I’m going to start bouncing authorizations and reports back to the initiating MOL as being inaccurate and incomplete. Names will not be changed to protect the innocent! If you are the MOL-in-Charge check your assisting MOL’s work before you send it in.

• Please think about taking the time to refresh your MOL skill set and knowledge of policy and procedure. I’ve gotten several complaints over the last few months about MOL’s who don’t know how to run tournaments, don’t understand the weapons form designations or are confused about how to run authorizations. This is NOT GOOD^™.
• We have made a number of changes to forms over the last few years. Please confirm that you have the most recent incarnation of each MOL form. Especially be aware of the old vs. new form if you have taken the responsibility of an apprentice at an event. If you aren’t using the newest form you are teaching them old procedures.
• The new FAQ should be up by the end of the month. I will post to the MOL List when we get it on line.
