Electronic Distribution

If you are receiving this letter (instead of a full packet) you are on the list for electronic distribution. In this case, I am sending you a single letter and asking you to download all the enclosures that would normally receive in hardcopy.

Four year cards

As of November 1st, the Kingdom List switched to issuing four year authorization cards rather than the five year cards which have been in circulation since January of 2000. In November of 2000, the Society Marshal's Handbook was revised to state the following requirement:

"I.8 Combat authorizations may be issued for a period of up to, but not exceeding, four (4) years."

Kingdoms are bound to comply with the Society officer's policies, so the solution is simple: Atlantia will switch to issuing four year cards. The gracious society marshal is content to leave the five year cards in circulation while we phase in the four year cards, so the five years cards are still valid.

Paperwork woes

I am spending an unreasonable amount of time correcting paperwork, with two specific problems.

Missing marshals signatures: After an authorization is successfully completed, the marshals sign the paperwork attesting to the authorization. Before I can issue a fighter card, I must be able to read the marshals signatures. To properly fill out the authorization paperwork, MARSHALS MUST PRINT AND SIGN LEGAL NAMES.

If I cannot read the marshals names, I cannot grant the authorization. I currently have about a dozen fighters in the incomplete authorization file waiting for me to identify the marshals' signatures. This extra detective work is not easy for me or the fighters.

Illegible paperwork: Excited fighters have a habit of rushing the paperwork, often making the name and address unreadable. Then, they complain that their name is misspelled on the cards or fighters lists. Also, I'm often left to guess that 'N.N.' stands for Newport News or what the zip code is for Central, SC. This makes mailing cards a little difficult. Please, check the paperwork. If you can't read it, I probably can't either.

MoL 101 class

The past few months, the required training has been on hiatus, while Mistress Stephania and I reviewed the training program. The next MoL 101 class will be offered at Spring University in February 2002. As always, when additional classes are scheduled, they will be announced in the Acorn.

Fighters currently on probation

There are two fighters currently on probation.

• Oswulf the Grey (Sam Hunt), from the northern area of Atlantia, remains on probation until May 2002.
• Shaitan (Gregg Ervin), from the northern area of Atlantia, remains on indefinite probation.

These two individuals on probation are specifically cautioned concerning deviations from the rules of the lists. Should you encounter problems with any of these individuals, notify the marshal to pull their authorization card and contact the Deputy KMoL for your area as soon as possible. They will be able to advise you on how to document the incident and what to do next.
